Legislative Update July 10, 2018
Featuring information on the following bills and resolution: 

  • HB 123 - To modify the Short-Term Loan Act. 
  • SB 313 - To establish the College Application Month program. 
  • HB 589 - To designate September 15 to October 15 each year as "Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month."
  • HB 712 - To repeal the Prevailing Wage Law. 
  • SCR 26 - To enact legislation to prohibit the practice of separating families at our nation's border. 

Legislative Update May 31, 2018
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 576 - To increase the state minimum wage. 
  • SB 278 - To enact the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act to obtain a court order that temporarily restricts a person's access to firearms. 
  • HB 589 - To designate September 15 to October 15 each year as "Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month."
  • SB 302 - To create the Health and Equity in All Policies Initiative and the Health and Equity Interagency Team. 
  • HB 637 - To permit sixteen and seventeen year olds to preregister to vote. 

Legislative Update February 23, 2018
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • SB 260 - To prohibit a person from knowingly possessing or acquiring an assault weapon.
  • HB 493 - To authorize the Director of Administrative Services to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states with respect to the certification of MBE and EDGE business enterprises.
  • SB 249 - To authorize an individual with a terminal condition and the capacity to make medical decisions to request a prescription for an aid-in-dying medication. 
  • HB 492 - To establish the women-owned business enterprise program requiring state agencies to establish women-owned business procurement goals. 

Legislative Update January 18, 2018
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • SB 246 - To enact the "SAFE Act" to revise procedures for emergency removal of a student, to prohibit certain suspensions and expulsions, to require public schools to implement a positive behavior internvention and support framework, etc. 
  • HB 461 - To require a juvenile court to hold a delinquency complaint in abeyance if the court has reason to believe that the act charged might be prostitution related or that the child might be a victim of human trafficking. 
  • SB 243 - To revise Medicaid copayment requirements. 
  • HB 468 - To grant full-time state employees paid leave for the purpose of attending medical examinations and appointments provided through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. 


Legislative Update December 17, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 380 - To prohibit illegal and unauthorized aliens from receiving compensation and certain benefits under the Ohio's Workers' Compensation Law. 
  • HB 214- To prohibit a person from performing, inducing, or attempting an abortion on a pregnant woman because an unborn child has or may have Down Syndrome. 
  • SB 216 - To enact the "Ohio Public School Deregulation Act" regarding the administration of preschool and primary and secondary education programs.
  • HB 164 - To require commercial roofing contractors to have a license. 
     

Legislative Update October 24, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 380 - To prohibit illegal and unauthorized aliens from receiving compensation and certain benefits under the Ohio's Workers' Compensation Law. 
  • SB 162 - To withhold local government fund payments to municipal corporations that have enacted an ordinance, policy, directive, rule, or resolution that hinders or prevents municipal employees from cooperating with state or federal immigration services.
  • HB 138 - To establish a system for individuals to make anonymous complaints regarding employers discriminating in the payment of wages. 
     

Legislative Update September 27, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • SB 180 - To assign to the prosecution the burden of disproving a self-defense or related claim, to expand the locations at which a person has no duty to retreat before using force under both civil and criminal law, and to modify the Concealed Handgun Licensing Law.
  • SB 197 - To require a tiered disciplinary procedure for harassment, intimidation, or bullying in school. 
  • HB 339 - To license residential only construction contractors and to make changes to the law regulating specialty construction contractors.

Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 49 - Governor Kasich signs Biennial Budget
  • HB 27 - Governor signs Workers' Comp Budget


Legislative Update - May 30th, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 27 - To make changes to the Workers' Compensation Law to prohibit undocumented immigrants from receiving workers' compensation benefits if hurt on the job, to prohibit an employer from electing to cover an undocumented immigrant, etc.
  • SB 99 - To prohibit the Medicaid program from newly enrolling individuals as part of the expansion eligibility group. 
  • HB 138 - To require the Ohio Civil Rights Commission to establish a system for individuals to make anonymous complaints regarding employers discrimination in the payment of wages. 
  • HB 164 - To require commercial roofing contractors to have a license. 
     

Legislative Update - May 16th, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 179 - To require state and local authorities to cooperate with the federal government in the enforcement of immigration laws and to prohibit a local government that fails to do so from receiving certain state funds. 
  • HB 50 - To establish requirements for electronic benefit transfer cards issued under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
  • SB 115 -  To require the registration of roofing contractors. 
  • HB 110 - To create a subprogram of the College Credit Plus Program that permits students to participate in certified apprenticeship programs. 
     

Legislative Update - April 10th, 2017
Featuring information on the following bills: 

  • HB 1 - To authorize the issuance of dating violence protection orders.
  • SB 11 - To designate March 31 as "Cesar E. Chavez Day" in Ohio.
  • HB 148 -  To require statewide registration of home improvement contractors, to create the Home Improvement Board, and to make an appropriation.
  • HB 60 - To authorize the issuance of driver's license, enhanced commercial driver's license, and enhanced identification card to facilitate land and sea border crossing between U.S., Canada, and Mexico, pursuant to an agreement with the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security.
