Juanita Sanchez Elected to the State Board of Education

State Board of Education Gets New Member - Juanita Sanchez
Gov. Ted Strickland filled one of two vacancies on the Ohio Board of Education with a bilingual aid for from the Fremont City School District.
Juanita Sanchez, 54, will fill a seat on the 19-member panel held by Jennifer Sheets, the former board president from Pomeroy who resigned last summer.
Sanchez has worked for the school district since 2007 and previously was assistant director of the foundation at Terra State Community College in Fremont. She also serves on the Minority Achievement Council for the Fremont School District and on the board of directors for the Fremont Federal Credit Union.
The state board consists of eight members appointed by the governor and
11 who are elected to represent a region of the state. All serve four year terms.
Sanchez will complete Sheets’ term to an appointed seat which expires Dec. 31, 2010.
The governor has yet to fill a second vacancy on the board also created last summer by the resignation of Carl Wick, an appointed member from Centerville.
