The vision of the Public Policy Center of the Office of Hispanic/Latino Affairs is to be a nationally-recognized policy research center for the benefit of all Ohioans, with a specific focus on policy for and about Latinos.

The mission of the Public Policy Center (PPC) is to serve as the program office directly responsible for implementing the following statutory mandates:

  • Advise the governor, general assembly, and state departments and agencies of the nature, magnitude, and priorities of the problems of Hispanic/Latino people;
  • Advise the governor, general assembly, and state departments and agencies on, and assist in the development and implementation of, comprehensive and coordinated policies, programs, and procedures focusing on the special problems and needs of Hispanic/Latino people, especially in the fields of education, employment, energy, health, housing, welfare, and recreation;
  • Propose new programs concerning Hispanic/Latino people to public and private agencies and evaluate for such agencies existing programs or prospective legislation concerning Spanish-speaking people;
  • Monitor and evaluate all programs subcontracted to local agencies by the commission;
  • Endeavor to assure that Hispanic/Latino people have access to decision-making bodies in all state and local governmental departments and agencies;
  • Serve as a clearinghouse to review and comment on all proposals to meet the needs of Spanish-speaking people that are submitted to it by public and private agencies
{Ohio Revised Code §121.32 (E,F,G) 121.33 (A,C,D)}

The PPC accomplishes these objectives by publishing Latino Community Reports (LCR's), regular whitepapers, policy briefs, and other research. In addition, the PPC has the mandate to propose new programs, legislative initiatives, and offer feedback to policymakers at all levels of state and local government.
