Mission Statement:
The Spanish American Committee exists to strengthen the economic well-being of the Hispanic and Latino community through a mix of family support programs, adult educational training, job training and employment assistance, pre- to post-homeownership counseling and early childhood enrichment. 

Description of Services:

Several core programs and services are available:
Employment:
Our employment support program provides career pathway support for clients including a skill and education assessment, soft skills instruction, resume updating and online job application review, job referral, and job placement.

Mi Casa Housing Counseling: In operation for over 12 years, our housing program includes the following:

  • Pre-housing counseling where our clients are educated about housing options
  • Financial planning
  • Financial literacy sessions instructing our clients on how to earn, spend, and save towards their housing goals.

Financial Literacy: free of charge, program offered monthly.

Consumer Counseling: Our one-on-one counseling includes review of critical financial information, financial literacy support, and consumer education about available community resources and opportunities such as legal information when an individual has experienced discrimination and/or housing scams existing in our community. Beyond one-on-one counseling, we also provide a monthy workshop for clients and their families to review fraudulent activities in our community, how to protect yourself from them, how to avoid and manage identity theft, and other important consumer theft activities that can discredit your name and leave your family bankrupt.

ESL through the ABLE (Adult Basic Literacy Education) program: free of charge 

  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am-12:30pm or
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm-7:30pm
  • in the SAC classrooms at 4407 Lorain Ave

GED classes, free of charge.

Early Childhood Enrichment: for children two and a half to five, utilizing bilingual and multicutural curriculums based on the Creative Curriculum.

Before and After School Program/Summer Vacation Child Care: for children ages five to twelve. The before and afterschool/summer vacation program is licensed and state certified and includes transportation to and from school, tutoring, weekly library visits, free meals, and a trained and certified staff of teachers.
