Description of Services:
La Conexion is a community-based organization organized and led by Latinos residing in Wood and surrounding counties. The organization aims to unite the Latino community, develop links of solidarity among us (the idea of helping each other) and bring more resources into the community. By improving ourselves as a community, we can create a more positive environment for all—Latinos and non-Latinos. The sky is the limit regarding how much we can do for the community but it will depend on the involvement and participation of the community.
Focus areas:
Adult Skills Building: English as a Second Language classes;  Bi-lingual Computer classes.

Children and Youth: Nuestros Niños el Futuro is a program that offers twice a week free tutoring and mentoring to Latino children and youth during the academic year.
Bienvenidos. Is an annual picnic to honor and welcome farmworkers.

Celebrating Latino identity and Culture:
-Events to highlight our culture: Annual Day of the Dead celebration; Annual Latino Holidays event highlighting Latino traditions during the Christmas season.
-“Conociendonos” Annual event celebrated in August to bring the community together to meet and share our stories.
Solidarios. We help our community members with a variety of needs and daily challenges. This can go from interpreting at a doctor’s appointment, to assistance finding a job, finding legal help, knowing where to go when you don’t have health insurance, and linking people with other agencies who offer services we might need.
Advocacy on Issues of Concern to the community. Transportation, immigration, lack of ID, Medicaid access,  have been some of the issues we have worked on.

Domestic Violence: The tragedy of domestic violence is a reality that affects us all. La Conexion has partnered with the Cocoon Shelter to bring their services into the Latino community of Wood and surrounding counties. Cocoon offers crisis intervention; emergency safe housing; legal advocacy; support in all areas of life planning for survivors of domestic violence; emergency needs; and counseling and exploration of options.
Leadership and Capacity development. Identifying and nurturing Latino leadership.
