Nuestra Gente Community Projects, Inc. (NGCPI) is a non-profit with a mission to promote the education, health, and wellbeing of each person we serve.  Our vision is to contribute to a healthy and artistically vibrant community.  NGCPI focuses on the following values:

·         Community-centered health education;

·         Creating and cultivating respect for each other

·         Assisting with the creation of a community that centers around the compassionate care for others;

·         Safety;

·         Teamwork and partnership;

·         Continuous learning and improvement; and

·         Leadership.

The vision of contributing to a healthy and artistically vibrant community is the measure used for programs developed and implemented by NGCPI. In service to these core values, the organization provides education, social services, health and safety awareness, multiculturalism and diversity awareness, and the promotion of artistic expression.

Description of Services:

• The Safe Program

Nuestra Gente helps Latinos and low-income residents of Lucas County with their medical needs by providing access to healthcare services--making medical appointments, providing transportation and translation for their medical appointments and bills so they don't miss payments or other deadlines.

• Lupus Awareness

Our goal is to bring awareness and education to the community about lupus in hopes of both saving lives and helping those affected to manage the disease. We host monthly support groups and other activities during Lupus Awareness Month. Currently, NGCPI’s is the only bilingual lupus awareness program offered in Lucas County.

• HIV Education and Testing

We offer a HIV/AIDS Program to the Latino Community that includes education and organizing testing activities to address the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in our target audience.

• La Feria de la Salud

NGCPI is a champion for overall health. We go directly to the community and offer health services such as HIV and cholesterol testing and blood pressure and blood sugar screening. To date, we have screened 1,180 people for HIV and 1,400 people for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol issues. But there is much more work to be done.

Our services are open to all who need help.

• Barrio Latino Art Festival

The mission of the Barrio Latino Art Festival, is to: support artists, promote artistic expression, and bring visitors and neighbors together to share in the spirit of the arts in our community. It is an event that fills the Old South End of Toledo, Ohio with an atmosphere of imagination and hope as people come together to joyfully celebrate a day for the Arts through food, dancing and of course, beautifully displayed artwork.

• WVZC-LP 96.5FM Nuestra Gente Radio

96.5 FM Nuestra Gente is a nonprofit, public radio station licensed to NGCPI that provides a broadcasting service in Spanish to Lucas and Wood counties. 96.5FM Nuestra Gente is the first and only all Spanish, Latina woman-run, local radio station--which broadcasts from the heart of the historic South End of Toledo, Ohio.  96.5 FM Nuestra Gente operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
