Workforce and Economic Development

Workforce Investment Boards (WIB)

The WIBs serve as the governing body over the One-Stop Shops in their area, as dictated by the WIA. These One-Stops offer services meant to help prepare the workforce for the needs of today's job market. These services include, but are not limited to: computer training, resume workshops, ESOL classes, and job search assistance.

Services vary by area and shop; to know what is available to you in your area please visit the table below ( under WIBs in Latino Communities) and browse your WIB website.

The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 requires that each WIA Area must have a Workforce Investment Board (WIB) to oversee WIA-funded Programs. The Boards must be composed of more than 50% private sector business members. It must also include members from educational entities, labor organizations, economic development agencies and representatives from each of the one-stop partners, and may include other individuals that the chief elected official may deem appropriate. The individuals of the board, appointed by the chief elected official, have “optimum policy-making authority.”
